Mosaics of Zeugma

Ancient Zeugma disappeared under the waters of a new Turkish lake a decade ago. But classical archaeologists are not known for rushing their results into print, and major publications are just now starting to come out on the archaeology done just before the flooding. Among the most spectacular discoveries were many wonderful mosaics, including these. The one above, known as the "Gypsy Girl," serves as a sort of emblem of the project.

Akhoolos, God of the River Euphrates.

 Poseidon.

Okeanos and Tethys.
