Out of Iraq

The U.S. military declared an end to its 8-year-long misadventure in Iraq with a flag-lowering ceremony today. Actually there are still 4,000 combat troops inthe country, most of whom will be out by the end of the year, besides various advisers and who knows how many secret special forces guys. And a few thousand contractors to protect US diplomats.

I opposed this war from the beginning and I can only hope that as it fades into the past, the terrible damage it did to both Iraq and America will gradually be healed.
